Savage Girl: A Poem

ryan-christodoulou-ke3c4gdeoqu-unsplash.jpg

There’s a little part of me, I think,

that’s a little bit savage. She secretly

dreams of escaping. She’s the part of me

wanting to get lost in the wonder, the mystery,

whatever it is that isn’t me.

Because of her, at times,

I must confront that bold, inexorable self

who crashed through the woods just to jump

into the cold lake with nothing.
